Galerie KOO – Jean-Philippe Duboscq, Solo Exhibition 22Nov – 29Dec

Belgian artist creates a world in bebop tempo, scratched, crossed out, erased, with saturated colours and syncopated rhythms, of which the space in perspective opens to an internal light. A kind of distortion of the form of which the subject is “painting”.

                                                             ABOUT THE STORY

Frank and Walker have nothing in common in life. Or do they? Frank, having dedicated his life to the unremarkable, and Walker, paranoid since being struck by lightening at the age of three, attempt to flee from each other and end up following each other instead. Their journey will turn their lives upside down and will lead them in search of an unbelievable truth. On their path, they will encounter many strange and quirky characters to finally end up in a run-down hotel operated by deaf and misdirected Willy and blind Alice, who has a murderous dislike for visitors.

ABOUT THE PLAY

The Ends of the Earth was the winner of the Governor General’s Award of Drama in 1994.

Here is what some of the critics had to write about The Ends of the Earth:

From the jury’s citation, Governor General’s Award

“This comedy of ideas dazzles with the scope of its invention, its theatrical energy and its wit. The play acutely explores our contemporary obsessions with fear and paranoia. The structure, with its mixture of odd surrealism and even odder logic, is always informed with an observation of, and a compassion for, curious human reality”.

From The Globe and Mail

“Panych’s witty script is full of laughs and packed with action… Astonishing production!”

From CBC Radio

“Wacky, hysterical… Like a metaphysical Marx Brothers movie!”

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

Stephen Morris Panych (born 30 June 1952) is an award-winning actor, director and playwright, director and actor. He was born in Calgary and grew up in Edmonton. His plays include: Girl in the Goldfish Bowl (2003); Vigil (adapted for the British stage as Auntie and Me); Lawrence and Holloman; The Ends of the Earth; Earshot; 7 stories ; Dishwashers; Still Laughing: Three Adaptations by Morris Panych (2009), Panych’s adaptations of The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol, Hotel Peccadillo by Georges Feydeau and Mauric Desvallières, and The Amorous Adventures of Anatol by Arthur Schnitzler; and The Trespassers (2010). He won the 2004 Governor General’s Award for Drama for Girl in the Goldfish Bowl, and the 1994 Governor General’s Award for Drama for The Ends of the Earth.

Testimonial about the Course

“I enjoyed the course and think that it clearly illustrated the value of the asset manager in the fund and investor environment. The strategies and processes we discussed will help me in my role to align the strategies at a property level with the overall goals of the funds. I recommend this for anyone involved in real estate investment on a multi-property scale.”

Adam Rosenfeld, CBRE Global Investors (Taiwan) Ltd.

“I find The ULI Asset Management Workshop a valuable experience. The topics discussed were well chosen, the instructor was articulate and lively in the sessions, and the materials taught were well organized in its delivery. I learned a lot even though I have been in the industry for quite a number of years.”
Albert Chan, Shui On Land
