250km of Hell: Chamber Exec T. Handcock to run the Sahara for Tabitha Foundation
From October 2nd to 8th, 2011, Todd Handcock will be participating in a 250km self-supported footrace in the Sahara Desert in support of the Tabitha Foundation. The Sahara Race is part of the 4 Deserts series, named by TIME magazine as one of the Top 10 Endurance Competitions in the world.
The Tabitha Foundation is focused on helping the people of Cambodia help themselves out of poverty. Your donations in support of his run for Tabitha will have a significant impact on the lives of many less fortunate people and enable them to learn to help themselves.
There are two giving sites so that you can contribute to fund raising efforts for this important organization:
1. For Canadian and American supporters, you can contribute by clicking on this link and entering “Todd Handcock” to open his giving page:
Sahara for Tabitha: North America
2. For supporters from Asia, the UK and the rest of the world, you can contribute through:
Sahara for Tabitha: Asia, UK, and Rest of World
You can share in this experience with Todd by following his blog from now to the end of the race.
About the Tabitha Foundation
The Tabitha Foundation was established by Canadian Janne Ritskes and is focused on aid activities in Cambodia, a country whose people were decimated by a regime which promoted enforced starvation, mass executions, slave labour and wholesale dislocation to such a degree that the social, moral and economic fibre of the country was left in tatters.
Tabitha’s integrated development initiatives include health care, education, sanitation, housing, small business and co-operatives. These initiatives enable the poorest of the poor to improve their health status, rebuild shanties into homes, have their own toilets, clean water and drainage systems, reconstruct roads, develop their own small businesses or become workers in cottage industry programs and learn to worktogether as a community.
Central to the Tabitha Foundation is the conviction that their work should foster this sense of community among the local population. To this end the projects always involve the instruction of indigenous trainers who, by example and teaching, work to restore control to the communities themselves and guide them towards self-sustainability.
